Easter Seals!

Century 21 is on of the largest contributors to the Easter seals program World wide. Raising over 5.6 million dollars last year alone. Our office raises money for Easter Seals Camp Winfield. Camp Winfield has been operating since 1968. The camp has between 300 and 350 campers per summer over 5 one week sessions. The campers pay no fee’s to attend the camp and there is a 3:1 camper to staff ratio! At camp Winfield they have 5 different program areas that include an outdoor pool, waterfront, challenge course elements, arts and crafts, and outdoor pursuits.

Easter Seals Mission Statement

At Easter Seal Camps, it is our goal to provide safe, fun activities in an environment where the focus is on abilities, not disabilities. All of our camp activities are designed to build confidence, independence and peer interaction in a recreational environment. Campers are encouraged and supported to participate in activities they may never have tried before including: climbing on our climbing wall, multi-day hikes, tie-dying, water polo, canoeing, wheelchair basketball, water balloon wars, kangaroo kourt, and leadership training.

Our camping program provides residential summer camp sessions for children 6 to 18 years of age who have a mental and/or physical disability. Through corporate and public donations and the time and effort of countless volunteers, the Lions Society of BC is able to fully subsidize our camps, allowing our campers to attend free of charge. Through the summer season, over 800 campers have an opportunity to attend one of our camps.

Kole Jack - In His Own Words

For one week I get to go to Camp Easter  at Manitou Beach. On nice sunny days, we go horseback riding. Someone leads the horse and Garnet helps me into the saddle. The horse stops for a drink when we get back and I get to brush my horse. Later in the week two cabins get to go for a barbeque on the Barge. The Barge is wheelchair accessible. We drive our chairs up the ramp and put on lifejackets. There is a barbeque on the Barge. Hubs cooks us hotdogs and cheeseburgers. We all stuff ourselves “like pigs.” The week flies by, it’s time for the final banquet. I take a date. Her name is Kirsten and she is from Saskatoon. At the banquet we eat cake, then go to the Rec shed for the dance. We dance and visit with our friends. Next morning Mom comes to pick me up and I go home with thoughts of coming back next year.
